We lost a good friend the other day in Big Red. He was a fixture at SOAR–for many years as a ‘yard cat’ often staking claim to a choice spot up on the cattery sink, then landing a spot in the cattery’s new back room. He was the quiet type, not given to fuss much about anything, always ready to receive our affections. Dignified was Big Red. No doubt, he had been hurting for some time, and now he gets his richly deserved rest. Be safe, bud. See you on the other side.
Our little white Calico, Sheba, crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. Sheba had been a guest of ours at SOAR for at least 5-6 years. Cattery life didn’t seem to suit her so she joined the ranks of the yard cats early on. She disappeared for a week last Fall, resurfacing with some sort of affliction that left her very unstable on her hind legs. Sheba spent what would be her earthly last few months in the company of a new set of pals in the safe confines of the cattery’s back room. I will miss you, “Sheebs.” Some sunny day…

Terrific news about Vader and Molly, but I have to send out a big “attaboy” to my pal Murphy the cat. Attaboy, Murph! Until your adoption, you had to have been living the good life with us for at least 5-6 years, if it was a day. In that time span you made the complete SOAR lodging circuit–from yard-to main cattery cage-to cattery back room. Like your dear departed pal Big Red you have always been a class act, the infrequent “love nip” being a minor flaw not worth counting. Murph, it took just a little bit longer than it did with Vader, but the famous ‘Luck of Zeetlegoo’s’ came through for us again. I will miss that signature humming sound of yours. Pleasant days to both you and your new humans.

Mya, Mya, pants on fya…He came to us with his sister Mia courtesy of Jeannine probably a good 6 years ago now. They shared a cattery cage, and then Mia’s adoption left Mya behind–eventually to become one of the “yard cats.” Most of us know Mya as an accomplished greeter, devoted eater an all-around alpha cat–just ask all his beleaguered mates, past and present. Now our friend is gone, his absence around SOAR as palpable as any I have felt in my time there. Here’s to you, Mya…Some sunny day. And Pierson, Chee-Chee, Earl, Pearl, Sheba, Big Red–all you “ex-yardies”, wherever you are, be forewarned. Mya is out there.
Though I will miss him a lot, I couldn’t be happier about my special friend Jackie the Cat finding himself a new home. He’d made real progress since coming to us all the way from JACKsonville back in 2011. Jack, I’m glad we got some good pets in last Friday. We had a great run at SOAR. Have a good life.
Your pal,
Steve
Hi, Akasha. It was three years ago today that we said our goodbyes at Four Paws. I miss you. See you again some sunny day.
Your pal always,
Steve
